  10. The Korea Network Information Center (KRNIC) was set up and started its operation 
  11. from April 1993. Major tasks of KRNIC are registration and database services.
  12. All IP network number requests from Korea has been done via KRNIC-InterNIC 
  13. transactions from April. KRNIC is also cooperating for the establishment of 
  14. APNIC (Asia-Pacific NIC) with other countries in this region.  
  15. The authority of KRNIC comes from ANC (Academic Network Council), the 
  16. coordinating committee for academic networks in Korea. 
  17. KRNIC information can be accessed via gopher and anonymous ftp to the
  18. KRNIC server <nic.nm.kr>.

  21. Korea has upgraded one of its international links to 256 Kbps (connecting HANA 
  22. network and FIX-W in the USA) in June.  Korea has two more international links:
  23. a 56kbps connection between KREONet and San Diego Super Computer Center, and 
  24. a 9.6 Kbps BITNET connection from Seoul National University.

  26. A first joint networkshop in Korea (KRNET'93) was held on 7-8 July. 
  27. It was organized by ANC and the three IP networks in Korea.
  28. KRNET program included tutorials, status reports, paper sessions, and 
  29. demonstrations. 981 individuals participated from universities, companies, 
  30. and research institutes. The workshop committee recognized an increasing
  31. interest on the Internet than anticipated. Due to the limitation of workshop 
  32. place, the desk had to close preregistration a week before the workshop.
  33. KRNET will be held annually in June or July.
